Taking ThreeFold Refuge
သရဏဂုံ ၃-ပါးကို ခံယူခြင်း
1. Which religion do you believe in?
သင်သည် မည်သည့်ဘာသာကို ယုံကြည်ပါသနည်း။
I believe in Buddhism.
ကျွန်ုပ်သည် ဗုဒ္ဓဘာသာကို
သက်ဝင်ယုံကြည်ပါသည်။
2. What is your religion?
သင်က ဘယ်ဘာသာဝင် ဖြစ်ပါသနည်း။
My religion is Buddhism.
ကျွန်ုပ်က ဗုဒ္ဓဘာသာဝင် ဖြစ်ပါသည်။
3. What is Buddhism?
ဗုဒ္ဓဘာသာဆိုတာ မည်သို့ ဖြစ်ပါသလဲ။
Buddhism is the teaching of Buddha .
မြတ်ဗုဒ္ဓ၏ အဆုံးအမ တရားတော် ဖြစ်ပါသည်။
4. Who is Buddha?
မြတ်ဗုဒ္ဓဆိုတာ ဘယ်သူပါလဲ။
The Buddha is the All-Knowing One.
သိစရာမှန်သမျှ အမှန်အတိုင်း
သိတော်မူသော ပုဂ္ဂိုလ် ဖြစ်ပါသည်။
5. What do you mean by a Buddhist?
ဗုဒ္ဓဘာသာဝင် တစ်ယောက်ဆိုတာ မည်ကဲ့သို့
အဓိပ္ပါယ် ရှိပါသနည်း။
A Buddhist is the one who follows the Doctrine taught by the
Buddha.
မြတ်ဘုရားဟောကြားတော်မူသော တရားတော်တို့ကို
လိုက်နာကျင့်ကြံသူကို ခါ်ပါသည်။
6. How does one become a Buddhist?
မည်သို့အားဖြင့် ဗုဒ္ဓဘာသာဝင်တစ်ယောက် ဖြစ်နိုင်ပါသလဲ။
One becomes a Budhhist by taking the Three Refuges (Tisaraṇa)
တိသရဏခေါ် သရဏဂုံ ၃-ပါးကို
ခံယူခြင်းအားဖြင့် တစ်ဦးတစ်ယောက်သည် ဗုဒ္ဓဘာသာဝင် ဖြစ်လာနိုင်ပါသည်။
7. What are the Three Refuges?
သရဏဂုံ ၃-ပါးဆိုတာ ဘာတွေများလဲ။
The Three Refuges are the Buddha, the Dhamma, and the
Sanghā.
ဘုရား တရားနှင့် သံဃာတော်တို့ကို ခေါ်ပါသည်။
8. Why do you seek refuge in the Buddha?
သင်သည် ဘာ့ကြောင့် ဘုရားကို
ကိုးကွယ်ဆည်းကပ်ပါသလဲ။
I seek refuge in the Buddha because He taught us the way to
end all suffering.
မြတ်ဗုဒ္ဓသည် ဒုက္ခအားလုံး၏
ချုပ်ငြိမ်းရာလမ်းကို သင်ပြသောကြောင့် ကိုးကွယ်ဆည်းကပ်ခြင်း ဖစ်ပါသည်။
9. What is Dhamma?
ဓမ္မတရားဆိုတာ ဘယ်လိုဟာပါလဲ။
The Dhamma is the Doctrine taught by Buddha.
မြတ်ဘုရား ဟောကြားတော်မူခဲ့သော တရားတော် အစုစုကို ဓမ္မဟုခေါ်ပါသည်။
10. Why do you seek refuge in the Dhamma?
သင်သည် ဘာ့ကြောင့် ဓမ္မကို ကိုးကွယ်
ဆည်းကပ်ပါသလဲ။
I seek refuge in the Dhamma because it is only path to end
all suffering.
တရားတော်သည်သာလျှင် ဒုက္ခအားလုံး၏
ချုပ်ငြိမ်းရာလမ်း ဖြစ်သောကြောင့် ကျွန်ုပ်သည် ကိုးကွယ်
ဆည်းကပ်ပါသည်။
11. Who is the Sanghā?
သံဃာဆိုသည်မှာ မည်ကဲ့သို့သော ပုဂ္ဂိုလ်
ဖြစ်ပါသလဲ။
The Sanghā is the Holy Order founded by the Buddha.
သံဃာဆိုသည်မှာ မြတ်ဘုရား ဖွဲ့စည်းတည်ထောင်ခဲ့သော မြင့်မြတ်သော တပည့်ရဟန်းများကို ခေါ်ပါသည်။
12. Why do you seek refuge in the Sanghā?
ဘာ့ကြောင့် သင်သည် သံဃာကို
ကိုးကွယ်ပါသလဲ။
I seek refuge in the Sanghā because they are Holy Disciples
who practice the Dhamma and have understood it and then taught us the way to
Nibbāna.
ရဟန်းသံဃာတော်များသည် တရားဓမ္မကို လေ့ကျင့်ကြပြီး ကောင်းစွာ နားလည်ကြလျက်၊ ကျွန်ုပ်တို့အား
နိဗ္ဗာန်သို့ သွားရာလမ်းကို ပြန်လည် သင်ကြားပေးသောကြောင့် ဖြစ်ပါသည်။
13. How do you recite the formula of the
Three Refuges?
သရဏဂုံ ၃-ပါးကို မည်သို့ ရွတ်ဆိုပါသလဲ။
We recite in Pāli:
ကျွန်ုပ်တို့ ပါဠိဘာသာဖြင့်
ရွတ်ဖတ်ကြသည်။
Buddhaṁ saranaṁ gacchāmi.
ဗုဒ္ဓံ သရဏံ ဂစ္ဆာမိ။
Dhammaṁ saranaṁ gacchāmi.
ဓမ္မံ သရဏံ ဂစ္ဆာမိ။
Saṁghaṁ saranaṁ gacchāmi.
သံဃံ သရဏံ ဂစ္ဆာမိ။
14. What is the meaning of those Pāli
words?
ထိုပါဠိစကားလုံးများ၏ အဓိပ္ပါယ်မှာ
မည်သို့ ဖြစ်ပါသလဲ။
Their meaning is:
ယင်းတို့၏ အဓိပ္ပါယ်မှာ...
I go to the Buddha for refuge,
ကျွန်ုပ်သည် မြတ်ဘုရားကို ဆည်းကပ် ကိုးကွယ်ပါ၏။
I go to the Dhamma for refuge,
ကျွန်ုပ်သည် တရားတော်မြတ်ကို ဆည်းကပ်
ကိုးကွယ်ပါ၏။
I go to the Sanghā for refuge,
ကျွန်ုပ်သည်
သံဃာတော်အရှင်မြတ်အပေါင်းကို ဆည်းကပ် ကိုးကွယ်ပါ၏။
or in other words,
တခြားတစ်နည်းအားဖြင့်
I take refuge in the Buddha,
မြတ်စွာဘုရားကို အားကိုးရာဟူ၍ ယုံကြည်
ဆည်းကပ်ပါ၏ ဘုရား။
I take refuge in the Dhamma,
မြတ်စွာဘုရား၏ တရားတော်မြတ်ကို
အားကိုးရာဟူ၍ ယုံကြည် ဆည်းကပ်ပါ၏ ဘုရား။
I take refuge in the Sanghā.
မြတ်စွာဘုရား၏ တပည့်သား
သံဃာတော်မြတ်အပေါင်းကို အားကိုးရာဟူ၍ ယုံကြည် ဆည်းကပ်ပါ၏ ဘုရား။
15. How many times do you recite the Three
Refuges?
သရဏဂုံ ၃-ပါးကို ဘယ်နှစ်ကြိမ်
ရွတ်ဆိုရပါသလဲ။
We recite Three Refuges three times adding “Dutiyampi and
Tatiyampi” which means secondly and thirdly respectively.
ဒုတိယမ္ပိ တတိယမ္ပိ ဟု ထည့်ဆိုလျက်
၃-ကြိမ် ရွတ်ဆိုရပါသည်။
16. What do you recite before taking the
Refuges?
သရဏဂုံ ၃-ပါးကို မယူမီ
မည်သို့ရွတ်ဆိုရပါသလဲ။
We recite the following thrice in Pāli:
အောက်ပါတို့ကို ပါဠိဘာသာဖြင့် ၃-ကြိမ်
ရွတ်ဆိုရပါသည်။
Namo Tassa Bhagavato Arahato Saṁmā saṁbuddhassa
နမော တဿ ဘဂဝတော အရဟတော သမ္မာသမ္ဗုဒ္ဓဿ။
17. What does it mean?
ယင်းသည် မည်သို့ ဆိုလိုပါသနည်း။
Homage to Him, the Blessed One, Holy One, Fully-
Enlightened- One.
အရဟတော= ပူဇော်အထူးကို
ခံတော်မူထိုက်သော၊ သမ္မာသမ္ဗုဒ္ဓဿ= သိစရာမှန်သမျှကို တစ်စမကျန် သယမ္ဘူဉာဏ်ဖြင့် အမှန်အတိုင်း သိတော်မူသော၊ တဿ ဘဂဝတော= ထိုမြတ်စွာဘုရားအား၊
နမော= ရိုသေမြတ်နိုး လက်စုံမိုး၍ ရှိခိုးပါ၏ အရှင်ဘုရား... ဟူ၍ ဖြစ်ပါသည်။
18. Is there any other word for “Tisaraṇa”
Threefold Refuge?
သရဏဂုံ ၃-ပါး (တိသရဏ)ဆိုသော ပါဠိ၏
အခြားသော အခေါ်ပုဒ် ရှိပါသေးသလား။
Yes, another word for “Tisaraṇa” is “Tiratanā”, i.e., Triple
Gem or Threefold jewel.
တိသရဏ၏ အခြားသော အခေါ် အမည်မှာ ရတနာ
၃-ပါး ဖြစ်ပါသည်။
19. What is the meaning of “Ratanā?”
ရတနာဆိုသည်မှာ မည်သို့ အဓိပ္ပါယ်
ရှိပါသနည်း။
It is called “Ratanā” because it pleases and delights one.
တစ်စုံတစ်ဦးအား
နှစ်သက်မြတ်နိုးစေသောကြောင့် ယင်းကို ရတနာဟု ခါ်ပါသည်။
20. Why do you take refuge in the Triple
Gem?
ဘာ့ကြောင့် သင်တို့သည် ရတနာ ၃-ပါးကို
ဆည်းကပ်ကိုးကွယ်ကြပါသလဲ။
We take refuge in the Triple Gem, because they can dispel
our sufferings and lead us to the Real Peace of Nibbāna.
အကြောင်းမူ ရတနာ ၃-ပါးသည်
ကျွန်ုပ်တို့အား ဒုက္ခများမှ ကင်းဝေးစေပြီး စစ်မှန်သော ငြိမ်းချမ်းသော
နိဗ္ဗာန်သို့ ရှးရှုခေါ်ဆောင်(လမ်းညွှန်) သောကြောင့် ဖြစ်ပါသည်။
21. Are there any rites observed when
becoming a Buddhist?
ဗုဒ္ဓဘာသာသို့ ဝင်ရာတွင်
လိုက်နာကျင့်သုံးရသော ပွဲသဘင် အခမ်းအနား တစ်ခုခု ရှိပါသလား။
No, there are no special rites observed when becoming a
Buddhist; one must simply have righteous faith in the Triple Gem and take
refuges in them.

တစ်ယောက်ယောက်သည် ရတနာ ၃-ပါး၌ စစ်မှန်သော ယုံကြည်မှုရှိ၍ သရဏဂုံကို

22. What is the name given to a Buddhist?
